Open Educational Materials of the sustainability-focused Project-Based Learning (PBL) experience implemented in the Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Automation and Robotics, as part of the Robotics in Transportation Systems Course, at SUT.
The challenge asked students to develop a robotized solution for workpiece transport within a CNC machining cell, replacing manual material handling between input storage, the machine tool, and finished-parts storage. The objective was to design and compare alternative robotic cell concepts by selecting suitable robots, grippers, transport equipment, and workstation layouts, while evaluating cycle time, productivity, safety, energy efficiency, and environmental impact to identify technically feasible and more sustainable manufacturing solutions.
