Open Educational Materials of the sustainability-focused Project-Based Learning (PBL) experience implemented in the Bachelorβs Degree in Aerospace Engineering, as part of the Introduction to various project work forms (PBL, Design Thinking) Course, at SUT.
The challenge asked students to investigate key aircraft engine components (compressors, turbines, and combustion chambers) focusing on their design, operating conditions, degradation mechanisms, materials, and protective coatings. Working in small teams, the objective was to apply PBL and Design Thinking methodologies to explore how materials engineering can improve component durability and engine efficiency while reducing exhaust emissions and carbon footprint, integrating green technologies, resource efficiency, and sustainable material use into aerospace engineering solutions.
