🚀As part of the ENVIHEI pilot implementation, 58 students from the University of León, enrolled in the 4th year of the Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, participated in a 13-week Problem-Based Learning (PBL) experience within the Project Management course between September and December 2025.
✈️ Working in two large groups, students selected and developed real-world aviation-related projects: an airline business case and an airport modification project. They organized themselves into professional roles and subgroups, applying project management tools and methodologies to define requirements, plan tasks, develop technical or financial models, and deliver their final solutions.
🌱 Sustainability was integrated into both projects as a key consideration. Students assessed aspects such as environmental impacts, soil management, acoustic impacts, effects on wildlife, resource consumption, and energy efficiency, encouraging them to consider the environmental implications of engineering decisions.
💡 The experience strengthened students’ project management, teamwork, decision-making, and problem-solving skills while giving them the opportunity to work autonomously in large teams and experience dynamics similar to those found in professional engineering projects.
📚 The pilot demonstrated how PBL can connect engineering education with real-world challenges, while integrating sustainability and student-centered learning into higher education.
