πΏ Last Friday, students from the 3rd-year Plant Biotechnology course of the Biotechnology degree at the University of LeΓ³n took part in a learning activity focused on the implementation of student-centred training in existing higher education learning environments, presenting their work at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences.

πΈThe presentations were held in the context of the Fascination of Plants Day 2026, creating a dynamic space for students to share their projects, exchange ideas, and engage with sustainability-related topics connected to plant science and environmental challenges.
π§¬Among the projects presented were proposals on the gene editing of antinutrients in soybean to improve nutritional quality and digestibility; the enhancement of tolerance to aluminium toxicity and low phosphorus/nitrogen availability through the modification of regulatory genes in soybean; the development of a hypoimmunogenic line of Triticum aestivum while maintaining baking quality; and the use of microalgae for environmental remediation and resource transformation within a circular economy framework, aligned with the OneWater concept.

πThis pilot experience contributes to the testing and validation of innovative teaching methodologies and educational resources developed within the ENVIHEI project. Feedback gathered from both students and lecturers will support the continuous improvement of the learning design and its transferability to other higher education institutions across Europe.

π The ENVIHEI consortium, coordinated by the University of LeΓ³n and funded by the Erasmus+ programme, continues to promote sustainability-oriented education and the integration of green competences in higher education, supporting the development of future professionals equipped to address global environmental challenges.
